The royal story...

The history of the ship...
The now over 90-year-old ship Prinses Juliana was originally built and used as a training ship in the Netherlands.
On 13 June 1931, Her Royal Highness Princess Juliana of the Netherlands christened the new training ship from the "Onderwijsfonds" (Dutch maritime education organization).
At the end of 1931, the ship was put into service, but due to a rapid increase in the number of students, the cabins had to be expanded and improved. A modification was also carried out by the "Gideon" shipyard, where the ship was lengthened from the original 32.40 meters to 38.85 meters.
Prinses Juliana served as a Dutch training ship until 1969, when more modern Dutch training ships took over. There was, however, a break during World War II, when the ship was used to house German officers.

The new life...
On 31 December 1969 the ship was laid up, and on 10 March 1970 it was sold. Since then it has served as a restaurant ship. The ship's engine and propeller were also later removed to make room for a new galley and a cold storage room.
The ship has sailed under several captains. Captain Salomons of the "Prins Hendrik" had the honour of picking up the "Prinses Juliana" from the shipyard, and he remained at the helm until 1948. Subsequently it was D.G. Spuyman 1948–1959, P.C. Noordhoek (temporary) 1959–1960, R. D. Houtman 1960–1963, R. v.d. Huizen 1963–1965, W. Bos 1965–1966, H. Klootsema 1966–1970

The great "reconstruction"...
Today it has an interior insulated area of approximately 385 m², distributed over three floors - all restored to more modern and classic standards.
The ship has recently received new installations including modern electricity, plumbing, floors, walls and a well-functioning kitchen and bathrooms. All carried out in the years 2007-2020 by Danish ship-savvy craftsmen.
The ship's engine has been removed, in favor of a kitchen and fridge, etc.

More details...
The major renovation included, among other things, replacement of worn steel in the bottom and sides, new insulation, upgrading/completely new electricity, water and a new central district heating system as well as air conditioning, renovation of decks, installation of a new kitchen, bar, staff room, office, toilets and bathroom, and establishment of a new sound and alarm system including a high-volume safety pump system.
All new fixtures and loose equipment were also replaced. A new and larger bridge. New stairs inside and outside, all new walls and floors inside, new gangways, 2 new masts, etc. etc. etc.

Second round...
In addition, the ship has been continuously maintained to ensure comfort, quality and safety. In the first quarter of 2018, it underwent a comprehensive technical inspection and overhaul, including new anti-fouling.
And in the fall of 2019, a new floor was poured in the pantry, new linoleum was laid in storage, lamps were replaced with LED, and repairs were made.
In January 2020, pipes and electrical installations were replaced externally, and winter insulation/heating of pipelines was carried out. Both masts were replaced, and the upper mast balls were covered with 24 carat gold, and silver coins were placed under the masts by the princess for good luck.
Every year, a certified inspection company dives into the hull/bottom to ensure that everything is in order, and an annual inspection of the electricity, fire tracks, pump system, etc. is also carried out.

Today...
Prinses Juliana has been moored at the quay on Aalborg's waterfront at the Limfjord Bridge since 1993.
This area is part of Aalborg city center's most charming waterfront, offering a fantastic view of the Limfjord and an atmosphere of maritime activities and cultural diversity.
The location is very central in the middle of the city - but the ship can of course be moved via towing to any harbor in most of Europe.
The seller is of course happy to provide expert advice so that a change of ownership goes smoothly.
